Seeing a need for theatrical productions that reflected the African-American experience in 1992, William Barry Scott along with his mother Dorothy Scott, and brother Raymond Scott founded The American Negro Playwright Theatre (ANPT) a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Nashville, TN. The first production was "Raisin in The Sun" performed on the stage of the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC).
Our mission is to foster a public appreciation of theatrical productions written by or about the culture and heritage of African-Americans. In essence, we are “telling stories that must be told”.
Your support and contributions will enable us to take our productions beyond the boarders of Nashville. We are telling stories that must be told, stories the world needs to hear and see. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
